How to cook pearl barley in a rice cooker
1. Rinse 1 cup of pearl barley under running water until all the flour dust is gone. Pour cold water so that it covers the barley a little, and leave to swell for 4 hours, or overnight in the refrigerator.
2. Let the water drain, load the cereal into the bowl of the rice cooker, pour 3 cups of water and cook in the “Cooking” mode under the closed lid for 1 hour (without soaking 1.5-2 hours).
3. As soon as the cooking is over, leave the barley in the heating mode for another 20 minutes. So the cereal will become crumbly. Salt to taste, mix and divide into bowls.
Barley in a rice cooker turns out to be softer and at the same time does not boil into porridge due to the fact that the rice cooker has thick walls and evenly heats the cereal.
It is due to the thick walls that you can use the method of languishing the barley: boil the barley for 20 minutes, and then turn on the heating mode for 2 hours without opening the lid. By the way, barley will turn out more fragrant if you add a little oil directly into the rice cooker at the stage of cooking.
